Conference: Transportation, Weather & Conditions, and Hotel & Registration

The Tribal EPA Region 9 Conference announces Transportation, Weather & Conditions, and Hotel & Registration.

The 2022 Tribal EPA Region 9 Conference starts on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, in Lake Tahoe. As you begin your travel preparations, here are some important details to remember.

Weather

The weather during the conference will be cold. Check the forecast before you pack. Be prepared for daytime high temperatures from the low 40s to mid-50s and nighttime lows in the teens. Dress in layers and bring cold-weather outdoor gear such as hats, scarves, gloves, warm jackets, and shoes.

Please check the latest National Weather Service weather forecasts and CalTrans SR-89 (west) and US 50 (east) road conditions.

Elevation

Lake Tahoe sits at an elevation of 6,225 feet. Most people don’t have any issues adjusting to the lower oxygen levels at this elevation; however, you may experience the effects of mild altitude sickness, such as shortness of breath, dizziness, headache, fatigue, loss of appetite, and trouble sleeping. These effects are more likely to occur if you normally live at or close to sea level. If you experience altitude sickness symptoms, they will diminish as your body acclimates to the elevation. As long as symptoms remain mild, they do not require medical attention.

Transportation

If you are driving and staying at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, the conference venue, you will have access to free self-parking at the hotel. If you are taking a shuttle or other car service from the airport, make those arrangements before you fly. We suggest the South Tahoe Airporter shuttle service. The shuttle will drop you off directly at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe. Check their website for prices, schedules, and reservations.

Hotel

You will need a credit card to check in to Harrah’s Lake Tahoe. If your departure date has changed, be sure to tell the front desk when you check in, so you are not charged for extra nights.

Early Check-In and Registration

If you are arriving on Sunday, October 24, you can check in early between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the conference registration desk on the second floor. Check-in and registration will open at 7:30 a.m. every day for the rest of the conference, starting Monday, October 25.

Health Safety Protocols

We strongly encourage everyone to be fully vaccinated and boosted before attending the conference. Harrah’s Lake Tahoe does not currently require masking, but we encourage you to wear a mask when in public areas. We will have hand sanitizer available throughout the conference. Masks are also available at the registration desk. If you feel sick, do not attend any conference events and let one of the organizers know. We will have COVID tests available at the registration desk.

We expect everyone to have a fun and productive time at the 2022 Tribal EPA Region 9 Conference. Please talk to any of our staff or volunteers if you have questions or need help.
