Workshop: Air Quality Environmental Education Opportunities for Tribes

Abstract
Learn how to implement EPA’s Air Quality Flag Program. Discover the environmental education benefits of representing air quality by raising a flag that matches EPA’s Air Quality Index (AQI). Learn how to customize a flyer and poster with EPA’s Tribal Air Quality Flag Program Packet to share information with your community about air quality, how it can affect health, and actions to take on a bad air quality day. We will also offer demonstrations of air quality lesson plans, outreach materials, and school resources. One lucky tribal participant will receive a particulate matter detector to take home through our raffle!
Both EPA and ITEP have established Air Sensor Loan Programs to enable tribal communities to learn about air quality. Mansel A Nelson will share his work about providing air quality sensors to tribal communities and schools. Tribes can use the sensors to monitor air quality both inside and outside, for a variety of situations, including during increased smoke seasons. The program also includes Air Sensor Toolbox Educational Resources, such as lesson plans and resource guides.
