Announcement: 2021 Tribal EPA Region 9 Conference Theme

The Tribal EPA Region 9 Conference announces the 2021 Tribal EPA Region 9 Conference Theme.

The theme for the 2021 Tribal EPA Region 9 Conference is “Tribal Land, Tribal Knowledge, Tribal Sovereignty.” This theme reflects the fact that all land is Tribal land. It recognizes that Tribal knowledge remains inextricably linked with the care and protection of the land. It affirms the rights of Tribal sovereignty in applying Tribal knowledge to the stewardship of Tribal land. The work of Tribal environmental professionals serves to strengthen, support, and prioritize Tribal land, Tribal knowledge, and Tribal sovereignty. 

At this year’s conference, we will be making explicit the connection between land, knowledge, and sovereignty as they apply to our work and to the partnership between Region 9 Tribes and the US EPA. We hope to see the theme threaded throughout the conference, whether in individual presentations or in keynote remarks and plenary sessions.

Tribal Land, Tribal Knowledge, and Tribal Sovereignty are the foundation for everything we do. We look forward to hearing what this year’s theme means to you.
